about

I was listening to a lot of Immortal before composing this one, re-kindeling my love for their classic albums. Gods, how I adore At The Heart Of Winter. I am not sure if that influenced anything, though. This track doesn't sound very Immortal-ly to me, espeially with the french horns blasting at points. This is also the beginning of the story that continues in the next track "Of Forest And Flame" and the aftermath of which was the subject of "Fortress Of Decadence" from The Essence Of Winter.

lyrics

My name's Northelion, this is my tale
Its ending is bitter, but it must be told
For darker's the fate of all those who fail
To light up a fire before it gets cold

I am a chronicler, master of runes
Admired by many, detested by some
The old ones have guided me, played me their tunes
Melodies speaking of horrors to come

I declare the frost is nearing
Hunters from a realm of ice
While the lords are busy cheering
We must choose our sacrifice

Here comes Northelion, wise man of old
Doubtless he has something dire to say
Pray that these rambling have not yet been sold
For people to cower in fear every day

Deceiver, we call him, a master of fraud
Madness degrading his mind and his name
His reasoning's absent, his logic is flawed
Desperately seeking his minutes of fame

He's as old as he is feeble
We should never heed his rants
Allow me to distract the people
With a silly song and dance

We shall not relay this tirade
To the rulers of the land
Kings and queens will not be swayed
To let this madman force their hand

The court has proved heartless, as we might've known
Waving their hands, discarding my case
The Lords will be safe in their in towers of stone
You take your loved ones and flee from this place!
