about

In a bizarre way, this is the most personal and least personal song on the album. My own mental health struggles are an inspiration for the lyrics (aren't you sick of hearing that from most artists these days? Gods, what a lame thing to claim, oh Gods, the shame and other rhyming words as well), but the song's also about the fact that life on Earth would likely continue once humanity has ended itself. As the lyrics say: nobody would ever say if we mattered. Which isn't a nihilistic statement in my eyes, more of an obvious observation.

lyrics

Wear the crown
Curse the day
Confusing friend and foe

Circadian woes
Driving faith away
Contentment is what we'll never know

The slightest deviation from the norm
Erases all focus and breaks down the form
We've been here before

Paranoid musings
Crafting a maze
The way to serenity hidden by snow

Creeping delusions
Bringing decay
The candle's already burning low

Those who cast themselves aside
Endeavoring to fight the tide
All who answer, all who call
May have found no sense at all

There goes one, grieved by doubt
Takes some time as time runs out
Leaves a gold piece, he can't tell
He's added poison to the well

Singing our melodies, carrying our dead
Nobody will ever hear it be said
If we mattered at all

Those who cast themselves aside
Endeavoring to fight the tide
All who answer, all who call
May have found no sense at all

Singing our melodies, carrying our dead
Nobody will ever hear it be said
If we mattered at all

Digging up all memories, burying all our dead
Endurers of the fall claim The World in our stead
We'll all be equal after the fall
